Poll Worker Job Description


General Qualifications

To be a Poll Worker, you must be:


  • A registered voter in the State of California or Permanent Resident of the United States
  • Able to speak, read and write English
  • Work from 6:00 a.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. on Election Day


The County is divided into geographically-determined voting groups called precincts. Every voter lives in a specific precinct and can vote in person at their assigned polling place on Election Day. A Precinct Board is staffed with one Inspector and at least two Judges who ensure the integrity of the election process at that precinct.


All Poll Workers (Inspectors & Judges) are required to:

  1. Attend one training class
  2. Set up voting booths, eSlate Voting Machines, tables and other precinct supplies
  3. Open and close the polling place location
  4. Locate voter names on the roster
  5. Issue voters their access codes for voting on the eSlates
  6. Assist voters in any phase of the voting process
  7. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Inspector, the Poll Worker in charge

Inspectors must be able to:

  1. Inventory Election supplies before Election Day
  2. Contact your precinct board members before Election Day
  3. Make sure you know how to get into your polling place on Election morning
  4. Manage the operations of the polling place (i.e. assigning duties and setting up the schedule of the day)
  5. Oversee the completion of all paperwork
