Become an Poll Worker

Working at the polls is a demanding but vital part of making democracy work. We are always looking for people to work at our polling places. We recruit and train approximately 1,600 workers for a countywide election. If you would like to serve, please complete the application below, call (650) 286-2810 or email us at pollworkertraining@smcare.org.

  1. The Hours - The polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Poll Workers are required to be at the polling place from 6:00 a.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m. You will be given two 1-hour breaks during the day for meals.

  2. Compensation - A stipend of $140.00 for Inspectors (those in charge of the precinct) and $115.00 for Judges. An additional bonus of $8 is offered to those who travel out of their city to serve in a precinct elsewhere and $7 to Inspectors who pick up their supplies.

  3. Training Classes - Poll Workers are required to attend a training class for which you will be paid an additional stipend if you serve Election Day.
