Chief Elections Officer Extends Early Voting to 8 pm Today

Redwood City, CA - Voters are encouraged to “beat the Election Day voting rush” and avoid possible lines and vote early at either of the elections offices – 40 Tower Road in San Mateo or 555 County Center in Redwood City today.

“Due to the popularity of voting early, I am extending the voting hours at both election locations until 8 p.m. this evening,” said Slocum.  Voter turnout this past Saturday was tremendous.  In San Mateo, the warehouse was opened up to allow voters to wait, out of the rain, until they could be processed for voting.

Expecting a huge turnout at the polls on Nov. 4, the Elections Office has been encouraging people to vote early.  That way, voters can focus on the important issues before them instead of worrying about traffic, parking and getting to the polls before they close.”

“To make things convenient, we are providing nearly 20 free parking spaces in front of 555 County Center and the City of Redwood City has donated a few on Middlefield Road also reserved for voting. Voters can come in and vote or drop off their voted mail ballot,” he added.

The free parking is limited to a half-hour but it is right in front of the building.  The free spaces eliminate the search for parking and/or quarters, and save voters a long trek to and from their car at the busy county offices center. “It’s never been easier to come and vote!” said Warren Slocum, Chief Elections Officer for San Mateo County.

Early voters have a choice of voting on the electronic voting system or voting a paper ballot. Vote by Mail voters can stop by and drop off their voted Vote by Mail ballot.  And those wishing to sign up and take their Vote by Mail ballot home can do that in person as well.
