Election Officer Job Description
General Qualifications
To be an Election Officer, you must be:
- A registered voter in San Mateo County
- Able to read and write English
- Work from 6:00am to approximately 9:30pm on Election Day
Duties
The County is divided into geographically-determined voting groups called precincts. Every voter lives in a specific precinct and can vote in person at their assigned polling place on Election Day. A Precinct Board is staffed with one Inspector and at least two Judges who ensure the integrity of the election process at that precinct.
All Election Officers (Inspectors & Judges) are required to:
- Attend one training class
- Set up voting booths, eSlate Voting Machines, tables and other
precinct supplies
- Open and close the polling place location
- Locate voter names on the roster
- Issue voters their access codes for the eSlate
- Assist voters in any phase of the voting process
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Chief Election Official
Inspectors must be able to:
- Check election supplies and availability of the polling place before Election Day
- Manage the operations of the polling place (i.e. assigning duties and setting up the schedule of the day)
- Oversee the completion of all paperwork
