What Happens When Results Come Into the Election  Office?

When election supplies arrive at the Election Office there is a great deal of activity that takes place.  The trucks are offloaded as quickly as possible because this the posting of vote totals depends on this process. Each precinct’s supplies is scanned as it arrives on the conveyor. The Memory Packs are then transferred into our tally room (which is guarded by an armed Sheriff deputy and under 24-hour electronic surveillance).

Each Memory Pack is then read and the data from each precinct is downloaded into a database that stores the votes.  These computers do not have any external connection to an outside network and are not connected to any internal network (as required by law).  Once the votes are tallied and the reports are proofed a disk is made and the unofficial results are then uploaded to our web site and distributed in paper fashion every half hour at Election Central (Redwood City).
