Attention High School Students!

 

The San Mateo County Elections Office invites you to be a part of democracyLIVE!

 

It’s a great opportunity to get an inside look at how American democracy works and earn some extra cash!

 


What is democracyLIVE!?
democracyLIVE! is the San Mateo County Student Election Officer program where students have the opportunity to get an inside look at the election world by working at polling places on Election Day.

 

What are the Qualifications?
In order to be a student Election Officer, you must:

  • be at least 16 years old
  • be a high school student with a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • have written permission from both your parent/guardian and school for you to work on Election Day.

What are student Election Officer duties?
Student Election Officers are required to:

  • Attend a training class
  • Set up voting machines, tables and other precinct supplies
  • Open and close the polling place (work 6a.m. – 9:30p.m.)
  • Locate voter names on the roster
  • Issue ballots
  • Assist voters in any phase of the voting process
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Inspector , the Election Officer in charge

Election Officer Training
democracyLIVE! training will be scheduled at your school. Check with your School Coordinator. Alternate trainings are available if you have scheduling conflicts.
